Darkness. You feel a strong breeze pushing into your face, your body—pressing your cool clothes against your skin as it attempts to throw you back. It's warm. Pleasant. It makes you feel alive. You can feel yourself smiling. You make out a faint distant murmur, drowned out by the wind's howl. "What?" you say loudly. You realized he was talking to you. "I couldn't hear you!" You recognize his laughter; it still makes your stomach twist. "I told you you'd like it," he whispers against your ear. It makes your heart skip a beat and goosebumps run along your skin. The feeling is ecstatic. It reminds you of when you starting going out. "Babe," you say, pushing him away and glowing despite this. "Don't do that." You open your eyes. You skip a breath. The crimson sun is hugging the distant mountains, across a hazy forest valley. The storm clouds that recently crossed the region are still visible in the horizon, and their mark still shimmers on the forest below—and it 's quite below; your trek here took all afternoon, after all. "It's pretty, babe." "Yeah," he replies, wrapping his around your waist. The two of you stood still, even as the sun grew larger and the sky redder—then brighter and brighter. Finally: darkness. |

How curious that dying in your sleep wakes you up in reality. Okay, maybe not, but you wake up nonetheless. Not violently, not in a sweat—you simply open your eyes to the boring redwood wooden ceiling that has met you every morning for the last sixteen years. The light from the suns outside was fierce, flickering between bright and dull with the movement of the curtains. Your fan is broken and it gets stuffy in your room if you leave the window closed. You stare at it, your dream still fresh in your memory. It's not everyday you remember last night's dreams, much less ones this surreal. You really felt as if you were there—though you can no longer recall "his" face. Was he someone you knew, or someone's you'd come to know? You fluster at the thought. You are getting older—maybe it is time you've a romance? Maybe, maybe. With a sigh, you toss aside your blanket and go about preparing for the day. Your alarm goes off. |
