Modern Tech Role Play is centered on the planet of Siora, in the Sol System. It revolves around the relationships between the multitude of sovereign states as they attempt to ensure their survival and defend their interests the world over. Not to be ignored, however, are the lives of the men and women who drive those states, nor those of the everyman that inhabit them.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Grim

She's pretended to listen in overall. I knew she was, because I could just read it. That's alright though; at least she was barely listening. Well, she was until I mentioned a new deity moving in. Then she actually began to give me her full attention, which only raised my concerns.

Well, now they're confirmed. She's nudging me on to spill the details and that's causing a knot to form in my stomach. If I told her I'd be in direct violation of my office. It's up to the new deity to release a statement on their ascendance into their new position after all; that's not my area to announce it nor is it mine to spill details before that announcement or before a week has passed. After either or those, it's all fair game again.

Shit, I forgot to mention any of that. Damn it I hope there's a rulebook in that shrine somewhere.

If I didn't tell her though, she may not want to talk to me as much anymore. That's not overall bad... well, I mean... it's kinda bad since I'm not really "friends" with anyone else. Her idiot brother hits on me, my boss is my boss, and anyone in Muze's direct influence does not particularly have fond feelings of me. Holy shit, I really don't have any other friends. Or even acquaintances. I have a lot of enemies though... yeah, so this isn't very good.

Lose my job or lose my only partial sorta friend. Screw it, if I just break the rules once it's not a big deal right? Plus my tab gets paid off and I'm kinda down on money as is!

"Okay, so it's-"

"I hope you're not doing something... unsavory Grim."

I freeze. Literally every part of my body freezes out of fear of what I suspect is behind me. Oh no, the others can't see it. I know they can't. I also know they can't hear that horrible voice, the voice of true death. Well, for me at least.

I slowly look to my left and notice that Sachiko was frozen. So were the other yokels in the room. Time had been stopped. That must be it. That meant it's definitely the one person I didn't want it to be. More like the one God, the only true God amongst us...

Muze. I swallow slowly and start to shake quite rapidly in my hands.

"You weren't going to break your covenant, were you Reaper?" Muze asks calmly, a hint of amusement in that voice. I try to turn to face my boss, but I find myself paralyzed by fear and horror.

"...N... no..." I stammer, trying not to burst into tears. "I uh... never... boss..."

"Sure you weren't." Oh shit, the boss is in a very bad mood today. "So Reaper, were you about to do something unbecoming of your office?" Muze asks, almost giggling a bit at my despair. "Because remember what happens if you do!"

"The... emissary..." I whimper. "Just like-"

"Correct! Shouldn't have broken one of the rules, but that's the price!" I feel hands on my shoulders and I'm on the verge of tears. Muze's not an evil figure but defiance is not met with temperance from Muze. It's met with wroth and equivalent exchange in the form of blood.

"I, I swear! I'm not going to break my contract! I just... I..." I can't even speak anymore. I'm gasping, trying to hold back the tears slowly streaming down.

"Yes yes. Mmm... should be careful Reaper. Read your rules carefully and follow them to the letter. Too bad too... guess there isn't anything you can do to tell Sachiko." And that's the moment the little bell goes off in my head. That's the moment I stop crying and blink in realization at what Muze just said. I don't really understand why she's doing this, nor do I really understand what her intentions are. Still, if there's a way out...

"Right... can't... tell her," I mumble, understanding where Muze's getting at. I hear a small chuckle as the hands are released from my shoulders.

"I'm glad we had this talk Reaper. And feel free to enjoy the rest of your day... I'll clean up the mess in the North." And then time resumed altogether. I shudder a moment, waiting for some sort of smiting, but nothing. Instead, I find myself leaping a meter in the air by the sound of a call to my cell phone.

"Augh! Sorry!" I tell Sachiko, grabbing my phone before remembering that I don't usually get phone calls. Nor do I really hand out my number to anyone. Nonetheless, I decide to pick up on the call rather than let it go to voicemail. The worst thing that happens is I tell them to fuck off, but letting it go to voicemail may mean I miss something. Or they may start harassing me. Both options seem like bad ideas really, so yeah. I say a quick greeting and wait for whatever-

"GRIM! Oh thank Muze you picked up! I think Noboru's in deep danger" I yank my phone away from my ear, wincing at the very loud voice. Is that Naomi? It sounds like her, but I can't be entirely sure. I look at Sachiko, mouth an apology, and put the phone on speaker so she can listen in.

"Naomi? Is that you?" I ask.

"Yup! I'm so sorry for calling you like this! I found your number on the counter along with some other emergency contacts. I figured I would call you since your name was at the top!" I was about to interrogate her on this, but something triggers in the back of my head. This must be Muze's work. I smirk and shake my head at what is a blatant and extremely obvious attempt at divine intervention and say nothing more on that matter.

"It's okay. What's wrong?"

"I just had this crazy feeling about No's safety. He left a while ago to go and see the National Martial Arts Championship Katana Finals even though I wanted to go over some details with him, but boys will be boys. I had a weird feeling though. Like he's about to get into a large amount of danger." I raise an eyebrow and sit up a bit. I think I know why she's alarmed, but I can't be certain unless I ask her the question.

"Why is he going to the finals exactly?" I ask, hoping that she knows.

"To see some guy fight. Um, Kokoru Mizaki I think." I was literally out of my seat grabbing my seat the moment that name came up. I guess she heard the ruckus because Naomi then asks, "Is everything okay Grim?" I wanted to tell her that everything is fine, but nothing can be further from the truth. If Noboru is going to see Kokoru Mizaki, then it's very clear he's in grave danger. I think even Muze is very well aware of the consequences of such a meeting taking place between the God of the Blade and... No. I can't think about that. I need to get shit together.

"Meet me at the corner of 13th and Sekai in half an hour. And hurry. We do not have time to fuck around at all." I hang up and look over at Sachiko with a worried look on my face. I then take a deep breath and say, "Well, I guess I can do you one better. I can help you meet the dumbass since he's about to get himself in more trouble than I think he realizes. Plus we may get to see a fight or two. Interested in tagging along?"

"Tch."

How lame.

Sachiko regarded a chip in her nail polish with a bit too much interest, eager to drive home the point that she was very disappointed in Grim for using that phone call as an out for keeping her secrets secret. Everyone knew Grim was one of the least social persons in Kazemura; she probably managed to dial herself somehow. The more airheaded of the two deities felt personally slighted; after doing such a good job pretending to care about the other's pity party, Sachiko wasn't even going to be rewarded with a few juicy details.

The lamest.

Fickle as ever, though, her attitude came full circle as she caught the frantic tone in Grim's voice. The party goddess tuned in even more as she heard the address: what was there? Something she would need to scope out, for sure.

Before Sachiko had a chance to write down the address for later sleuthing, opportunity let itself in without knocking.

"Oh!" she cooed in delight. "I would love to accompany you, babe!" All traces of poutiness had evaporated from her demeanor like a dewdrop in the rising desert sun.

Grabbing her essential going-out flask, complete with a lovely acrylic design of plum blossom branches and studded with pink rhinestones for a bit of added flair, and overly burdened keyring, Sachiko called to the present males, "You two behave. I'm going for a little girls'-day outing with Grim-baby." Taking a step forward and then freezing, she added a suggestive, "And don't even think about following us to learn about these deep, dark secrets!"
